GSA at the 2026 SID Meeting
May 29, 2026
At the 2026 Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID) Meeting, the Gorlin Syndrome Alliance hosted its first research roundtable dedicated to advancing prevention, treatment, and long-term outcomes for individuals living with Gorlin syndrome and associated basal cell carcinoma (BCC). The session brought together a remarkable breadth of participants, including senior investigators in dermatology and genetics, clinician-scientists, representatives connected to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), leaders within the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA), and researchers from institutions including Stanford, NYU, Yale, the University of Rochester, and several international collaborators.
Designed as a working session rather than a traditional lecture format, the roundtable focused on identifying patient-centered research priorities and building a collaborative roadmap for the future of BCC research and care. Discussions explored prevention and early intervention strategies, including genetics, immunotherapy, AI-driven diagnostics, genotype-phenotype research, natural history studies, and opportunities to reduce treatment burden across the lifespan. Participants also emphasized the importance of international collaboration, standardized data collection, Centers of Excellence, and stronger partnerships between patient organizations and academic institutions.

The energy and openness of the discussion reflected a shared commitment to accelerating progress for patients and families. By bringing together experts across disciplines and institutions for the first time in this format, the roundtable marked an important step toward a more coordinated, patient-informed research ecosystem for Gorlin syndrome and BCC.
